What’s so special about the Top MBA Programs?
You only have to look at the number of different ranking tables to see the obsession with top MBA programs, but what are the key factors that make one MBA program better than another? Well there are many different criteria that the various ranking systems look at when deciding the top MBA programs.
- Salary of alumni today
- Average salary increase of alumni since graduation
- Value for money
- Career progress
- % employed at 3 months after graduation
- Alumni recommendation
- International diversity (students & faculty)
- International influence in program content
- Experience of faculty
- Corporate social responsibility ranking
So, as you can see, there are many factors taken into consideration when producing the various MBA ranking tables. One aspect that isn’t measured but cannot be ignored is the heritage of certain business schools and the kudos that the likes of Stanford, Harvard and London Business School have. While this is important to some people I would be careful not to base your decision on the reputation of the business school alone!
In fact the most important consideration when choosing your MBA is to remember that it is just that – ‘your MBA’ and you should really choose your top MBA program based on the skills you are looking to acquire and the culture you are most likely to thrive in.
Extensive research is a must and be sure to read independent reviews and news stories and not just the website of the business school you are interested in. YouTube has some great videos, which provide insight into business school life and there are also some useful books to help you with your admissions strategy. Visit the Global MBA Report Book Shop.
