Why an MBA?

The MBA or Master in Business Administration is widely perceived as being the most prestigious business degree in the world. There has been a lot of various articles and research performed about how the degree can enhance your earning power and in virtually all cases the results have concluded that indeed it can, on average, have a positive effect on future earnings of a successful graduate.

Why an MBA program? The perception is that an MBA is associated to the corporate world where the detailed expertise on a number of subjects can be applied, however, small to medium sized businesses can also benefit from MBA qualified graduates. They can often offer the skills to help differentiate the business using the subjects that they have studied such as corporate strategy, marketing, human resources and statistical analysis. There is always room for improvement in every company and the skills of a professionally qualified employee could significantly improve productivity, service and sales.

It is important for a potential student to look at where they wish to be in terms of their career and the choice of subjects they may wish to learn. There are some specialised MBA’s where one can learn defined subjects in substantial detail, but make sure that it is the MBA that offers what you want and not another type of master’s degree. Ensure the right choice is made. You need to think about your career aspirations, for instance, if you decide that you wanted to be a business consultant then an MBA is the ideal qualification for you.

There are many reasons to pursue a post-graduate qualification, from personal experience it was to learn new ways to approach day to day business and to be able to analyse business in a multitude of ways. Students who are already very experienced in the business world can find that their skills are further enhanced and sharpened through their learning. It can also expose the students to subjects and experiences that they would never come across during their current business life, thus making it very much more interesting.

In conclusion, the MBA is a prestigious qualification; it can enhance income possibilities, offer the graduate the chance to improve their organisation irrespective of size and be an exciting and interesting addition to their business knowledge and understanding.
